What is a Domain Registration?

This is when the details of,

1. a domain name
2. a registrant
3. the tag holder
4. the domain name servers

become associated and listed to form a registration at the relative registry body for that domain name.

For UK domains this is Nominet.

The domain names "WHOIS" data is created with the name, address, phone number and email contacts for the new owner, the tag holder and admin contacts, when the domain was registered and its status of registration etc.

What is a Domain Renewal?

only when paid for and in advance.

Renewal is when payment is made to the registry for the next period of registration to the current owner listed in the "WHOIS" details. It will renew owership for the next period of time before it is due again.

For UK domains this period is every two years.

Renewals must be carried out in advance of the renewal date .

If your domain is registered with us we will advise you thirty days in advance of expiry and invite you to renew your domain name.

You will get another reminder seven working days before expiry and we will contact you by telephone two working days before expiry.

We do not charge an administration fee for renewal You only pay the registration fee for the period of time you wish to renew.

What is a Domain Cancellation and Expiry?

This is when a domain is no longer required by its current owner, (ie it will be set to delete/drop).

When notified by a customer Slix will mark the domain name as "no longer required" at the registry body where it will remain untill it drops at the end of the registration period, at which point anybody else can register it.

What is an ownership transfer?

This is a change of ownership and control of the domain name.

The domain names "WHOIS" data is updated with the name, address, phone number and email contacts for the new owner.

It has nothing to do with a registrar transfer.

If you purchase a pre owned domain it will be "pre" registered for a period of time it could be months or years, it may not be the same date as purchased (This is obtained from the domain names "WHOIS" data).

It is the buyers responsibility to continue to pay registration fees, from Appx. £10 per year depending on which extension you have (dot com, co.uk etc)

The registration fee can be prepaid for up to ten years.

What is a registrar transfer?

This is when control of the domain name changes from one registration company to another.

It has nothing to do with an ownership transfer.

The registrar is the company /individual /Tag Holder who holds the registration details and administers IP details etc. for the domain name.

Originally, there was just one company that could register your domain name for you, but now there are literally hundreds.
